Dr. Collins is the son of Lee and the late Willie May Collins, he is the 6th of 7 children born to the late Willie May Collins. Dr. Collins is a native Chicagoan born and raised on the west-side. Dr. Collins is the product of the Chicago Public school system where he attended Morris, Calhoun, Beidler, Morton U. G.C. and is a proud graduate of George Westinghouse High School. Dr. Collins is also a graduate of DeVry Institute, A+ certified, and a veteran of the United States Army.
Dr. Collins membership at Central Memorial dates to his childhood under the leadership of the late Arthur Hubbard Jr. While serving in the United States Army Dr. Collins had an encounter with the Lord, that changed his life. He went from church member to seeking to know the Lord as his Lord and Savior, thanks to a rebuke by a fellow soldier. Dr. Collins has served under 3 pastors at Central Memorial, the late Rev. Arthur Hubbard Jr, the late Rev. Earnest Hunley, and retired pastor Rev. Benjamin F. Turk Sr.
Dr. Collins married Sandra D. Nicholson, the daighter of the late Rev. James and Oradell Nicholson of Chicago, Rev. James Nicholson was one of Dr. Collins scout masters of Troop 1361. Dr. and Mrs. Collins have 2 daughters, Sandria and Monique. They also have 2 grand puppies, Precious and Mr. Butter Cup, along with their German shepherd, Grace.
Dr. Collins holds a bachelor's degree in biblical studies from Moody Bible Institute, a master's degree in urban leadership, and a doctorate from Northern Seminary. Dr. Collins has served in many capacities at Central Memorial, from singing in the Arthur Hubbard Jr. Choir, and Inspirational choir, to serving as a Jr. Usher, Teaching Sunday school, General Superintendent of Sunday school, Deacon, associate minister, and assistant to the pastor.
As a result of Dr. Collins doctorate work on discipleship, he has become passionate about building up the body of Christ through discipleship. Dr. Collins agrees that Matthew 28:18-20 is Jesus' mandate to the church and when carried out we will see the church grow spiritually enabling it to impact the community in which it is located by bringing the kingdom of God to the neighborhood.
Dr. Collins enjoys tinkering with technology, watching DIY programs, listening to music. In the summertime he can be found doing yardwork while listening to music. He finds long walks with Grace not only enjoyable but also therapeutic. Now more than ever Dr. Collins is more intentional about having special moments with his wife Sandra. He looks forward to visiting his daughters and grand puppies.
